The Importance of an Oil Change

Getting your oil changed regularly is one of the most important things you can do to keep your car running smooth and efficiently.

We know that most people don’t have their oil change date written on their calendar, and we know they usually wait for the light to come onto their dashboard that it’s that time again. Nevertheless, this small preventative maintenance task is something that will help the life of your car.

What Does the Oil in My Car Do?

The oil in your car is what lubricates much of your engine to keep it running smoothly. It also helps reduce the carbon from collecting on the engine parts.

Remember that if your has car cylinders or a rotary engine, (it most likely does unless it’s electric), as you’re driving you have thousands of small explosions going in in your engine that create heat. No matter how good your oil is, it’ll eventually become thicker and less efficient because of oxidation, extremely high engine temperatures, and the tiny abrasive metal particles that it collects over time.

The oil eventually will turn to sludge and not perform its intended purpose. Many times the sludge will be counterproductive by blocking important passageways and leading to much higher repair costs.

The good news is that you don’t have to do oil changes yourself!
